Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a bookkeeper for my small business?

It is not mandatory to have a bookkeeper in NZ, but bookkeeping is an unavoidable fact of business. You can do it yourself, or have your accountant do it at the end of the year or when your GST is due. Having a bookkeeper keeps your books tidy, and provides timely feedback about how you're doing - it may even be the cheaper option. There's also the peace of mind that comes with knowing your suppliers are paid on time, your GST has been accurately filled, your invoices have been sent out, and your bookkeeper is even politely chasing up overdue recievables.  

How can Detail Desk help me with my bookkeeping?

Detail Desk can completely take over your bookkeeping so that you can focus on what makes money for your business, OR provide guidance and training so that you can do your own bookkeeping with confidence. Perhaps there's just one part of your accounts that you don't have time for, take it off your plate, we've got it!

Is my business big enough to have a bookkeeper?

I can help sole traders and small businesses without locking you into expensive plans that you don't need.

Do I still need an accountant if I have a bookkeeper?

Yes we still do recomend you have Chartered Accountant especially for your year end tax returns and tax advice. There can be some overlap between bookkeepers and accountants, for example both could file your GST returns, however bookkeepers are typically cheaper.

What can an administrator do for me?

Admin is like the oil that lubricates the machine, things don't run well without oil! An experienced administrator can perform a variety of tasks including: email management, filling, prepare presentations and reports, minute taking, monitor your health and safety paperwork, just to name a few. 

What's a virtual assistant?

A virutal assistant is someone who works remotely providing PA or administrative services. You might be in my local area, and we might even meet up occassionally, but because I'm not working in your office I'm technically a virtual assistant.
